The footballing highlight last night (Fri, June 14) wasn’t in Munich but in Paible, where Benbecula resoundingly beat North Uist United 7-1.

After declining to reschedule the match due to Scotland’s Euros 2024 opener, the North Uist side was on the receiving end of a scoreline that dwarfed even that of an outclassed Scotland squad which went down to 5 - 1 to host Germany.

Benbecula’s “pretty comfortable victory” was down to hat-tricks from brothers James and Sean Campbell. James bagged his hat-trick in the first half, with sibling Sean not to be outdone scoring his trio in the second half.

Callum Beaton also got on the scoresheet with a superb goal.

The North Uist United goalscorer was Kieran MacIsaac.

After the final whistle, the Benbecula team adjourned to sponsors, the Dark Island Hotel, for the second half of the Scotland international game.

Meanwhile there’s only one Uist and Barra league fixture today, Eriskay v Iochdar Saints, kick-off at 4 pm. Barra’s home game this afternoon has been cancelled as Southend FC is unable to field a team and forfeit the match. Barra FC has been awarded the three points.
