Taeping, the 19 metre-long sailing yacht of the Rockall Expedition, is nearing the lonely islet and should reach there later today (Tuesday, May 30), it is hoped.

At the time of writing, it was making six knots in favourable weather, raising hopes of a successful landing.

The three-man team of Cam Cameron, Emil Bergmann, and Nobby Styles plan on ham radio transmissions from the North Atlantic slab of granite.

The trio hope to set a new 60-day world record for occupancy on Rockall and raise £1m for veterans and sick children charities.
