Balivanich-based MacLennans Supermarket has paid out £1000 each to all five of the schools in Uist.

The total was rung up from the supermarket’s Making a Difference Locally fund.

News of the donations has been hailed online.

Among the many comments on the store’s Facebook page was Robin Spratt, who said: “That’s fabulous; what a great investment into the community.”

Another follower, Peigi Ann Macmillan, added: “This is amazing. Thank you, MacLennans Supermarket.”
