Tarbert is left with no ferry service for a week after a major shake-up of CalMac Ferries services across the Hebrides and Clyde - with routes being cancelled, vessels redeployed and timings revised.

Because of, as CalMac Ferries put it, "MV Hebrides making contact with Lochmaddy Pier" last night (Wednesday May 18) and to allow engineers to assess the damage, all sailings on the Tarbert, Uig and Lochmaddy routes today (Thursday 19 May) had to be cancelled.

All sailings between Tarbert and Uig have been cancelled between tomorrow Friday 20 May – Friday 27 May - as have all there services between Ardrossan and Campbeltown.

Additional capacity is available on the Ullapool-Stornoway route on Sunday night. There will also be an additional passenger sailing on Saturday night. There is capacity from Monday onwards on this route for displaced Tarbert traffic.

MV Isle of Arran will be redeployed from the Ardrossan-Brodick-Campbeltown route to cover the Kennacraig-Islay service, with MV Hebridean Isles moving from Islay to cover the Lochmaddy-Uig route.

MV Loch Bhrusda will operate additional sailings on the Barra-Eriskay route.

MV Caledonian Isles sailings will continue to operate as scheduled, and MV Loch Linnhe will act as a second vessel on the Lochranza/Claonaig route to support services to and from Arran.

A spokeswoman for CalMac said: ““We are keeping customers informed and will provide another update as soon as a full assessment of the required repairs has been completed in Greenock.”

Repairs to MV Lord of the Isles are progressing well and is expected to be back in service on the Mallaig-Lochboisdale route next week.

There will be a sailing between Oban & Lochboisdale on Friday 20 May as follows:

Depart Oban – 1050. Arrive Lochboisdale – 1635  Please note that essential freight will be prioritised on this sailing.
