Two men will combine an expedition to circumnavigate Harris and Lewis with a series of beach cleans.

Former Team GB athletes, David Bain and Tommy Brady, who form the Waves of Sustainability team, are aiming to kayak their way around the islands, cleaning as they go along, during their 10-day expedition.

The Waves of Sustainability initiative created by Tommy Brady and David Bain, aims to raise awareness of non-biodegradable plastic being disposed of on UK shores and being washed into the ocean.

The duo are keen to highlight that even the most remote areas of the UK are infected by the increasing problem.

Throughout the expedition content will be captured and released, showcasing how the environmental state of the world is being damaged by everyday human actions; the duo will also share tips on how to reduce the amount of plastic used.

The duo also plan to return to the islands to target the beach that needed the most cleaning.  Everyone will be invited to attend the clean nearer the time.

The pair will begin their journey tomorrow (Saturday May 4.)

David told "We hope to get more people from the local community involved too.

"We will be helping Surfers Against Sewage to meet their targets of reducing marine litter from the UK coastline by 50% by 2020.

"If we are able to clear all plastic pollution off the first beach, we will travel north to continue our efforts to remove any plastic from this area."

Bin bags of rubbish will be dropped off to their support vehicle.

David concluded: "I've been kayaking all over the world and I find it incredible we have such beautiful areas in the UK.

"Going to Lewis and Harris allows us to really promote these areas and go out and experience them!"
